چکیده
Abstract This paper addresses the issue of pesticide loss from agriculture and its impact on aquatic environment. Specifically, this study assesses transport relatively water-soluble polar molluscicide compound metaldehyde in a small (14 km 2 ) water abstraction catchment Essex, southeast England during 14-month period (January 2019–February 2020). A rise concentrations was observed at all monitoring points, to varying extents, months seasonal applications. The highest increases (up 0.05 µg L –1 across were autumn December. These findings reinforce mobile nature pesticide, with surface field drain runoff likely be predominant mode transfer waters. scale individual sources influx Ardleigh storage reservoir showed that contribution total flux transferred adjacent River Colne catchment. Atmospheric deposition followed similar pattern levels runoff, certain accounted for higher input than (May, August–October 2019). Monthly values mass ranged 27.7 47.4 g. An increase associated elevated sources. Relatively stable are probably due aqueous solubility decreased degradation rates

Chlorine Transport in a Small Catchment
It is generally known that chlorine compounds are ubiquitous in the environment. In recent years, researchers have concluded that chlorine is part of a biogeochemical cycle in soil involving an interaction between chloride (Clin) and organic-matter-bound chlorine (Clorg). Even though there is indisputable evidence that Clorg is formed naturally, there are actually few simultaneous field measure...
متن کاملModelling metaldehyde in catchments: a River Thames case-study.
The application of metaldehyde to agricultural catchment areas to control slugs and snails has caused severe problems for drinking water supply in recent years. In the River Thames catchment, metaldehyde has been detected at levels well above the EU and UK drinking water standards of 0.1 μg l-1 at many sites across the catchment between 2008 and 2015. Metaldehyde is applied in autumn and winter...
متن کاملCalibration and field evaluation of the Chemcatcher® passive sampler for monitoring metaldehyde in surface water.
Metaldehyde is a potent molluscicide. It is the active ingredient in most slug pellets used for crop protection. This polar compound is considered an emerging pollutant. Due to its environmental mobility, metaldehyde is frequently detected at impacted riverine sites, often at concentrations above the EU Drinking Water Directive limit of 0.1µgL-1 for an individual pesticide. This presents a prob...
متن کاملProcesses of Abstraction in Context
The nested epistemic actions model for abstraction in context has been developed with the purpose of analyzing processes of mathematical abstraction in context. We take a point of view influenced by activity theory and consider situations in which the learners’ motivation for a new construct, as well as their thinking mode, are mathematical. Abstraction is then defined as an activity of vertica...
متن کاملTransport of a Liquid Water-Methanol Mixture in a Single Wall Carbon Nanotube
In this work, a molecular dynamics simulation of the transport of water - methanol mixture through the single wall carbon nanotube (SWCNT) is reported. Methanol and water are selected as fluid molecules since water represents a strongly polar molecule while methanol is as an intermediate between polar and strongly polar molecules. Some physical properties of the methanol-water mixture such as r...
